Karl Daymond trained at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London) and at The National Opera Studio, sponsored by Glyndebourne Festival Opera. He has appeared as a principal baritone with many major opera companies, orchestras and festivals in the UK, Europe and the USA.
Karl has appeared with English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, at The Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), Opera North, The BBC PROMS, Minnesota Opera, Flemish Opera, The Netherlands Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, The Chicago Festival, The Covent Garden Festival, The Edinburgh Festival, The Dublin Festival, The Bath Festival, the BBC PROMS, and with The Philharmonia, The Royal Philharmonic, The London Sinfonietta and The Berlin Philharmonic; with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Richard Hickox and Paul Daniel and has appeared onstage with Montserrat Caballe, Dustin Hoffman, Dame Josephine Barstow, Lesley Garrett and Sir Thomas Allen.
At The Royal Variety Performance 2004 he performed The Pirate King (Pirates of Penzance) and was twice soloist in front of 70,000 at Old Trafford. His many recordings, radio and TV appearances include two films for BBC TV, one of which won The Gramophone and Vienna TV awards and gained a Grammy nomination. He has also made a special recording as a requested artist for BBC R4 Desert Island Discs.
Nowadays he enjoys nothing more than a good sit down at the piano for a spot of his very own brand of operatic entertainment. He performs his self-penned silly songs with Pippa Dames-Longworth, most recently on The Bookshow for SkyArts with Mariella Frostrup.
