Pippa Dames-Longworth studied at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and L’Academie de Maurice Ravel, winning many prizes including the Ricordi Opera Prize.
She made her professional debut as Spirit at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in Tavener’s Therese and has gone on to sing throughout Europe in concert and opera. Roles included Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera, Tatyana in Eugene Onegin, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte.
She has performed in festivals such as Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, Covent Garden, Batignano, Maggio Musicale, Frankfurt, the BBC Proms; and at The Royal Opera House, English National Opera, L’Nationale de Paris, Theatre de Complicite, Musiektheater Transparant and worked with Opera North, Teatro Real, Madrid, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Glyndebourne Touring Opera.
And with conductors such as Sir Georg Solti, Sir Andrew Davis, Sir Roger Norrington, Jiří Bělohlávek, David Robertson, Elgar Howarth & Jan Latham Koenig.
Television appearances include Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, directed by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf for the BBC, Bach Cantatas for Italian TV, Monteverdi (Orfeo wit Roger Norrington) for BBC 2 and the world premiere of Torke’s King of Hearts for Channel 4. Recordings include Birtwistle’s award winning Mask of Orpheus with The BBC Symphony Orchestra and Sir Andrew Davis and Stravinsky’s Rossignol with the Philharmonia.
Her repertoire ranges from the Bach Passions, Handel (Susannah, Joshua, Theodora, L’Allegro… with Sergio Siminovitch and Centro di Musica Antica) through to Brunnhilde’s Immolation Scene(Edinburgh Festival) and much contemporary repertoire.
Recent roles include the Witch and Mother in Hansel and Gretel for Lyric Opera, Dublin, Venus in Cavalli’s L’Orione for Venetian Opera, Iolanthe for the Hallé Orchestra with Carl Davis , Florence Pike in Albert Herring for New Kent Opera, Cunning Little Vixen in Brno, Czech Republic, Marcellina inMarriage of Figaro for Savoy Opera, London, Duchessa Federica in Luisa Miller, and Jenufa, for Opera Holland Park and performed Respighi’s Tramonto and Sculthorpe’s ‘Island Dreaming’ with the Brodsky Quartet in Belgium and the UK.
In addition, Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in Krakow, Brahms songs with Stephen Kovacevich, Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, a lunchtime recital in the Crush Bar, Royal Opera House, Walton’s Façade at the Southbank with William Sitwell, Il Tramonto with the Tippett Quartet in Kings Place Concert Hall, Verdi’s Requiem with Graeme Jenkins.
She recently made her debut for Paris Opera singing Ludmila in a new production of Smetana’sBartered Bride at the Palais Garnier conducted by Jiří Bělohlávek.
In Moscow, she gave recitals and masterclasses and this season will sing Mahler’s Ruckert Lieder,Verdi’s Requiem, Elgar’s Gerontius, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and a recital of Schubert songs with The Schubert Ensemble at Snape Maltings for the 80th birthday of the veteran broadcaster, Humphrey Burton.
